Los Angeles Surfboard Shapers

The Los Angeles area has a rich history, covers a diverse range of waves, as well as a diverse range of shapers. Possibly the birth place of surfing in Southern California, it was in 1909 that George Freeth came over from Waikiki to be a lifeguard. Naturally bringing his surfboard, he started wowing crowds from the Redondo Beach Pier. From epic point and beach breaks like County Line, Leo Carrillo, Zuma, Malibu, Topanga and more to the north...and the infamous and at times heavy breaks in the South LA area like Venice, El Porto, Manhattan, Redondo, and Hermosa beach...Los Angeles has a lot of surf that can suite the needs of every surfer from the beginner to the hard charger. The history and lineage of shapers coming from the area runs deep. Names Like Velzy, Jacobs, Lance Carson, Bing Copeland and Greg Noll just to name a few, found and settle in the South Bay which is still hosts some of the world's best craftsmen. Now it is names and brands like Scott Anderson of Anderson Surfboards, Tyler Hatzikian of Tyler Surfboards, Jeff Biggs Surfboards, Denis Jarvis of Spider Surfboards, Wayne Okamoto of Oak Foils, Pat Ryan of ET Surfboards, Michael Zippi of Zippi Fish, amongst many many more. In the South Bay area alone, you can find everything from tradition logs, alternative fish, mid-length hulls, to the most high performance craft all sharing waves (often the same wave) in the line up.
