BRAND / WAW Handplanes PROFILE

WAW Handplanes

Location: Sydney, Australia

WAW was founded in 2014 by Rikki who single handedly crafted the hand planes from recycled and reclaimed timbers. Built from his garage and workshop in Sydney, Australia he managed to sell thousands of handplanes accross 15 countries through distributions such as Patagonia and several major surf retailers.

To scale and produce enough hand planes while maintaining the core values of the company, it was decided to only use discarded Ocean Plastics in the manufacturing of the hand planes. To accomplish this, Rikki had to create an entire supply chain from scratch within Australia to produce recycled ocean plastic bodysurfing handplanes, called the BadFish. This was accomplished by connecting marine debris collectors, plastic processors, machinery manufacturers and injection moulders to work together, producing Australia's first commercial Ocean Plastics supply chain to produce the BadFish hand-plane.
