The board was built for a mystery surfer who turned out to be none other than Dane Reynolds.

The SD was initially built as a modified version of the Yes Thanks, one of Josh Kerr's models. The board's design features a smooth curve that accelerates towards the tail, a low rocker, hard edges, and a pinched deck. The board also has a fairly deep single fin that zeroed out under the rear fin and finished with a slight vee in the tail. The original dimensions of the board are 6'0, 19.25, 2.5, and 31.4 liters.

Despite some initial skepticism about the board's appearance, Dane Reynolds was pleasantly surprised by its performance in the water. He noted that it had a lot of speed and drive and was able to catch a few barrels on it. Over time, the board was tweaked and refined, and it has become one of Rusty Surfboards' most popular designs.

The SD is now offered in both the original dimensions and Plus dimensions. The Plus dimensions are the most commonly used, and they provide a little extra volume for increased stability and paddle power.
