What?

Rusty

From
$765.00

The What? surfboard is a high-performance shortboard that is designed to deliver maximum performance in the water. This board is best suited for shoulder-high to well overhead waves with plenty of power behind them. The What? features a narrow nose that transitions into a mildly curvy mid-section, and then into a slight, elongated bump just after the rear of the front fins in the tail. The overall rocker is fairly aggressive, which allows for top-to-bottom surfing and maximum performance.

The bottom of the board features a unique design that starts off flat in the tip and rapidly deepens into a single concave, giving the board a lot of speed. At the mid-section, the depth of the concave reduces and develops into a shallow, slightly hooked, double concave, and then finishes with a slight vee off the tail. This design allows for easy rail-to-rail transitions and excellent performance in the water.

Whether you're doing turns, airs, or hunting tubes, the What? is the board you'll want to reach for when you want maximum performance out of your surfboard. This board is ideal for experienced surfers who want to push their limits in the water and take their surfing to the next level.

THE BEST SHORTBOARD FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE SURFING

APPROACH & STYLE

The What? is your new favorite high performance shortboard. This board will perform best in waves that are a little bigger and have more power than average days in Southern California. Best conditions would be about shoulder high to overhead with punchier/steeper sections.

SHAPER'S NOTES

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Introducing the high-performance shortboard, the What? Featuring a slightly narrow nose and a curvy mid-section, the template flows into a rounded squash tail with a slight bump just behind the front fins. With an aggressive rocker, the front end is lifted while the rear accelerates and finishes at 2.3 plus. The balanced foil and slightly thin tail block provide excellent maneuverability, while the bottom design features a single concave that deepens rapidly and develops into a shallow, slightly hooked, double concave with a slight vee off the tail. Available in Pro and Bro dims for varying preferences. Enjoy the solid initial feedback - this board is very fast, holds a rail, and has a tight turning radius.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

WHAT MAKES THIS BOARD WORK

Deep Single Concave Up Front

A deep single concave with the deepest part in the entry, approximately 1/4 to 1/3 back from the tip of the nose, starts to shallow out through the center of the board and turns into a “hooked” double concave as it approaches the rear foot, coming into the front fins. The deepest part of this double con is under the rear of the front fin. The deep concave in the front creates lift. It feeds water back through the midsection and into “the zone” between the feet, generating a great deal of speed and drive.

Front Single Concave
What back concave

Hooked Double Convave

A single concave helps to direct water flow, but it doesn’t really focus it. A double creates a lateral break and helps to initiate turns. It helps to focus the water through the fins. By deepening the concave and focusing it close to the rail, deepest under the front fins, it gives extra hold and provides additional thrust and drive.

Slight Vee Off the Tail

The bottom finishes with a slight vee off the last few inches of the board. That helps to finish turns, smooth and connected.
