Strongly recognized for his flowing locks and zen-like attitude, Rob Machado is one of surfing's biggest legends. After abruptly stepping away from the professional circuit in 2000, Machado has since been shaping. In what he describes as a natural progression and constant learning curve, Machado's team up with Firewire has seen some sleek shortboards like the Glazer, the seaside and the seaside and beyond. Always happy to mix things up, Machado's best feeling is seeing someone having fun on something he had a hand in creating. His subtle but effective approach provides fun and float, refined rails and boards that perform, paddle easy and look great.
Rob Machado started surfing at the age of 9 after moving from Sydney, Australia when he was 4 years old. Now described as one of the most prolific and stylish surfers of all time, Machado has had a hand in a number of projects centralized around his greatest passion, surfing. Machado's story shows the personal route. His early departure from professional surfing into free surfing opened a doorway to creativity and the opportunity from a Hurley sponsorship to do what he does best.
Having spent some time traveling the world with a number of creative projects, Machado has since found himself in the ranks of fellow shaping greats under the Firewire brand. Adapting both Firewire LFT and Helium technology in his boards, Machado has produced some classics such as the Go Fish, Seaside and Seaside & Beyond. Machado's ultimate contribution to the history of surfing is his creativity and grace. Also a committed conservationist, his boards praise the communion of rider and wave.
