With roots that run almost as deep as they get, Robert August was bound to become an iconic name in the surf world. Influenced by his father Blackie August, a well-known surfer in his own rights, Robert started surfing in the early '50s. By the mid-'60s, Robert was blazing trails in the contest scene and had appeared in a number of films by legendary Bruce Brown, including 'The Endless Summer'. He had also begun working for Jacobs Surfboards in Hermosa beach, making his way from sales to shaping within a years time. Robert became an accomplished shaper and opened his own shop in 1974, thus becoming the Robert August Surf Co.
